A little bit about area23
Hello! I’m Martin Smith and area23 is the name I’m using for my freelance work, previously, I was known as Area23 Design and Advertising and had a studio for around ten years.
Experience & skills
With over 30 years in the creative industry, I blend design, music, and photography into some kind of work to keep me off the streets.
Highly creative and experienced designer with expert proficiency in Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator. I’ve also always had a very keen interest in typography and art direction that helps me to produce strong design and layouts. Always looking at producing the best creative solutions and providing client satisfaction.
Lifetime mac user and well versed with most technical needs, software, networking and upgrades etc.

Yep, it’s me, looking all moody and serious. In fact this was a shot for my passport photo. Taken in my bathroom due to it’s white walls and white light, using Fujifim X-T1 and Meike 55mm f1.4 AF and a 10 second timer.

He’ll herd pretty much anything. Everyone is a sheep. He looks friendly, but will nip when least expected. He’s still good fun and loves a game of football.
Aside from an ongoing interest in all aspects of design and photography i’m a very active person with pursuits including Road Cycling, Cyclocross and Mountain Bike Racing plus Surfing, Snowboarding. I’ve been a DJ and Producer for a number of years in my spare time and have played all over the UK and also in France and Ibiza alongside some top DJ’s. Other interests include Music, Films, Walking, Wild Camping, Event organising.
